Promotional Screening: The Woman In Black

Here's a goodie to start off 2012 - we've been invited to a free promotional screening of 'The Woman In Black'!

Event Plan

For this event, you will have to come dressed in black!! (that's going to be particularly hard on me ... hahaha ... )

We have a limited number of seats available for this show! Please update your RSVP in case your plans change, to make sure someone else can take your spot.

Showtime is 7.30, but since our seats are NOT guaranteed we need to be in line EARLY. I plan on getting in line at 6.30 latest ... If you'd like to grab a bite before the show, meet at 5.45 pm near the Kichi Grill in the Westfield Food Court ( please coordinate amongst yourselves how to find each other ... Stefan will not be able to be there in time for dinner )

The Woman In Black

The movie script is an adaptation of the wildly successful stage play that's been performed in London since 1989.

Proud and solitary, Eel Marsh House surveys the windswept reaches of the salt marshes beyond Nine Lives Causeway. Arthur Kipps (played by Daniel 'Potter' Radcliffe), a junior solicitor, is summoned to attend the funeral of Mrs Alice Drablow, the house's sole inhabitant, unaware of the tragic secrets which lie hidden behind the shuttered windows. It is not until he glimpses a wasted young woman, dressed all in black, at the funeral, that a creeping sense of unease begins to take hold, a feeling deepened by the reluctance of the locals to talk of the woman in black - and her terrible purpose.

Hi Stephen, Can we waiting list people come at 6:30 in the event someone doesn't show up or is late? Worst case, we go see a different movie :)

On my way over there. Gonna try and get in line a soon as I arrive. I'm wearing a black baseball cap with white stitching and "the city" logo, a black t shirt with "SQUARE ROOTS" on the front and "RIP MPOZI" on the back, jeans and black chuck taylors.

What fun!! The movie was more on the so-so side, but delivered more than I expected (solid cinematography, good jump-out-of-your-seat moments) ... it reminded me a bit of some of the 1950s creep flicks I've seen. Thanks everybody for coming out to this event!

I had a good time, glad I found out we could skip the crazy line since we were wearing all black! Nice to finally meet some Meetup members :)

As Stefan pointed out, many of us had very low expectations to begin with, and were quite pleasantly surprised as a result. While this movie will in no way establish DR's credentials as a leading man (he is very bland and lacks any kind of charisma whatsoever), it's competently made and delivers a certain amount of Thrills & Chills.

I had fun. The movie made me jump, which was good, the ending was a bit on the lame side. I had a good time though. Especially afterwards when a few of us got lost in the back halls of the mall trying to find the exit.
  • Wendy
It had a good story, some predictable parts, not super duper scary but an entertaining horror flick.
